Want to find the Best Lesbian Horror Movies with Queer Final Girls? Well, here’s a list of 13 horror and thriller movies with lesbian or queer protagonists. Forget about the typical “Bury Your Guys” or “Dead Lesbian” tropes to make the movies edgy. In this story, the gay lady is a main protagonist! (Updated 2026 )
Horror has always flirted with queerness and outsiders. Sadly, it has too often meant that the lesbian is the first to die, or the reason the film gets to be “edgy.” Not here. These are horror movies where the queer woman is the lead, her sexuality is just part of who she is, and she’s the one fighting to survive.
Okay, maybe once or twice, she’s also the villain, but we do contain multitudes, so we’ll let it slide. We are, after all, in horror movie territory.
Just like our list of The Best Lesbian Movies, they’re in a fairly random order. Whether a title is number 1 or number 9, it’s worth adding to your Halloween watchlist.
Full disclosure: I also review horror movies over at Heaven of Horror, so you’ll find links to my reviews (if I’ve done one, obviously).
1. Penny Lane Is Dead (2026)
This is an Ozploitation slasher set on a scorching night in 1986 Australia. Penny Lane celebrates her college acceptance with her new secret girlfriend Toni and their friend Amy. Then Penny’s vindictive cousin Kat crashes the party. Toni’s street smarts make her the heroine you root for, and the practical gore is great.
Important warning: Penny Lane is Dead is brutal, so check the content warnings first. Find it on Shudder.
2. Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma (2026)
Jane Schoenbrun (I Saw the TV Glow) turns the slasher inside out. An enthusiastic young director (Hannah Einbinder) is handed a tired slasher franchise and seeks out its original final girl (Gillian Anderson). The two women fall into a world of desire, fear, and delirium.
Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma won the Queer Palm at Cannes and has streamed exclusively on MUBI since October 2, 2026.
3. Attachment (2022)
A Danish actress and a Jewish scholar fall for each other fast, and then Jewish folklore gets very, very creepy. It’s a horror romance where the love story is as strong as the scares.
The storyline plays out mostly in London, so English is spoken throughout. Find it on Shudder.
4. Influencers (2025)
The sequel to Influencer is a rare case of a follow-up that is better and gayer than the original. CW has escaped to Paris and started a relationship with Diane, while her old victim Madison fights to be believed. From the first movie, we know CW is a killer, so this is our lesbian-villain entry.
This is a deliciously campy cat-and-mouse game. On Shudder.
5. The Fear Street Trilogy (2021)
Three Netflix slashers set in 1994, 1978, and 1666, which have the queerest of red threads. Deena (Kiana Madeira) and Sam (Olivia Scott Welch) are at the center of the 1994 story, with Deena as a bona fide final girl. Don’t worry, the two get their happy ending in the present day. The 1978 story is the least gay, but still kitsch horror fun.
The two girls also meet in the 1666 chapter, which is tragic, but their main love story is not. Find all three on Netflix.
6. Love Lies Bleeding (2024)
Kristen Stewart is a lonely gym manager. Katy O’Brian is a drifter and bodybuilder. The two meet and fall for each other, which will (due to outside factors) turn the plot into a violent crime story. The kind that spirals into steroid-fueled body horror.
It’s a neo-noir thriller with body horror elements, but sapphic horror fans claim it (as they should) as one of their own. Find it on VOD.
7. Lowlifes (2024)
A Tubi original that flips the “city folk vs. backwoods killers” slasher on its head. We meet a family on an RV trip. They are city folk and end up at a remote homestead. From there, the twists keep pulling the rug out from under you. And yes, lesbian characters play a key role in this kitsch and bloody story.
The film is featured on Heaven of Horror’s Best Tubi Horror Movies. Free on Tubi.
8. Jagged Mind (2023)
Moving from a kitsch and bloody Tubi movie to a Hulu psychological horror movie with a sci-fi element. This one is about a woman plagued by blackouts and time loops after she starts dating a mysterious new girlfriend. At the heart of the story is a woman trying to escape an abusive relationship.
Jagged Mind doesn’t make the characters’ queerness a plot point, but it is all about a lesbian woman. Find it on Hulu.
9. The Rebrand (2024)
A very queer, very funny found-footage mockumentary on a $5,000 budget. A pregnant videographer films a cancelled lesbian influencer couple’s “redemption” in their remote house, and things get dark. Not all the queer characters are good or kind, but all main characters are part of the LGBTQ+ community.
The Rebrand won Best Feature at both the Queer Fear Film Festival and Salem Horror Fest. Find it on VOD or stream it free on Hoopla.
10. What Keeps You Alive (2018)
A married couple head to a remote lakeside cabin for their anniversary, and one of them is hiding a deadly secret. It’s a lean, nasty survival thriller with two women at its center. The two women in the marriage are Jackie (Hannah Emily Anderson) and Jules (Brittany Allen).
What Keeps You Alive also gets violent and has many twists and turns. Find it on VOD, and possibly streaming for free somewhere (it changes all the time, but you can find out on JustWatch here)
11. The Perfection (2018)
Allison Williams and Logan Browning play two cello prodigies in a twisty, shocking Netflix thriller. Go in knowing as little as possible. It’s not for the squeamish. While it has a brutal ending, it should also be described as a positive one. Well, at least in terms of our lesbian protagonists.
Also, The Perfection gets extremely steamy when the women first get together. Find it on Netflix.
12. The Last Thing Mary Saw (2021)
A 19th-century period horror about two young women in love inside a strict religious household, with a ghostly, candlelit atmosphere. A gothic love story that earns its place on the list. It’s both about winning the fight, giving in, and never letting go of the one you love.
You can find The Last Thing Mary Saw on Shudder, buy or rent it on VOD, or watch for free on Hoopla.
13. Thelma (2017)
Joachim Trier’s Norwegian thriller follows a young woman whose supernatural powers awaken alongside her first love. A beautiful, eerie queer coming-of-age horror. If you like Carrie, then you’ll love this one!
Personal note: I had no idea Thelma would have a lesbian main protagonist when I first watched it at the AFI Fest film festival. It was a wonderful surprise, made even better by the fact that this is a powerful movie.
Find it on MUBI or watch it for free on Fandango with ads.
Lesbian Horror Series – for when you want to make it last
Finally, you sometimes want more than just a movie that will entertain you for a few hours.
You want an entire lesbian horror series to binge-watch.
Well, you’re in luck, as there are a few horror series featuring a lesbian love story. Not as a little side plot or queerbating subtext, but as the main plot. All three of the series on this list are on Netflix – two feature vampires and one is supernatural with a ghost story.
Quick warning: A happy ending is never guaranteed with these lesbian horror series, but their sexuality has nothing to do with their fate (whether good or bad).
If you want lesbian movies with happy endings, then head on over here >
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
Mike Flanagan’s series has one of the great gothic love stories between Dani and Jamie. Fair warning: it’s a heartbreaker, so keep tissues nearby.
For me, The Haunting of Bly Manor is one of the greatest lesbian love stories in a horror series. Perhaps the greatest.
Balaraw: Blood Island (2026)
A new Netflix release for Halloween 2026. A Filipino folk-horror series that follows Sabina (Janine Gutierrez), who travels to a mysterious island to find her missing mother. Always at her side, supporting and loving her, is her girlfriend Bulak (Charlie Dizon).
The cast has said that their relationship isn’t paraded around, and that’s fine. At the same time, it is not subtext. The two women kiss in the first scene between them, so it is established immediately that they are a couple.
Find it on Netflix.
First Kill (2022)
Netflix’s Juliet & Juliet vampire romance: a young vampire and a vampire hunter fall in love. First Kill sadly only got one season despite being a success. It even stayed in the Top 10 as much-anticipated new seasons of established hit series came out. Basically, you should know, going in, that it ends on a cliffhanger.
Find it on Netflix.
Final Thoughts on Lesbian Horror recommendations
Queer women have always loved horror, and now horror is finally loving us back.
Whether you want a gory slasher, a time-loop thriller, or a gothic romance, these are the stories where she gets to fight, and where her sexuality is just part of who she is.
Also, in many cases, the girl gets the girl and gets to survive. She may even be the hero – and at other times, she is the villain. Whatever our lesbian characters do in these horror movies, we love watching them. And it would appear we’ll get to watch more of them in the future.
Okay, I do have one more horror movie with a queer protagonist that I must include on this list:
Special Mention: Jennifer’s Body (2009)
Needy survives the ordeal, and the kiss between sweet and nerdy Needy and the titular Jennifer (Amanda Seyfried and Megan Fox) is a scene that has amassed (as of writing this) a whopping 446 million views on YouTube here (you’re welcome).
For many baby gays, Jennifer’s Body was the first time a horror movie saw them. The movie was written by Diablo Cody and directed by Karyn Kusama, cementing that these women-powered movies have actual cult potential.
In 2026, rumors about a sequel have heated up. Not least thanks to Amanda Seyfried saying she is both ready and excited about a sequel.
Find Jennifer’s Body on VOD and Hulu (it appears to be leaving many platforms on Halloween, but check where to watch it here).
