TED LASSO on Apple TV returns to the pitch, and this time, women play ball. We’ve watched the first four episodes for this season 4 review. And yes, had we been given the entire season, we would have binge-watched the entire thing.
Alas, we were only given four episodes, so we settled for that, and I am ready to keep watching weekly instead. To be honest, I’m kind of pleased this is the case, as it will make the season last much longer for me.

The struggle and stamina of Women’s Football
Ted Lasso season 4 is all about the women’s team. Yes, really, it’s not just some cute side story while we still follow the men’s team. I have no doubt that some people (men) will whine about this, but it’s high time that a women’s team takes center stage.
In the U.S., the women’s team has been the best for decades and is still reduced to a “side plot”. Well, not in Ted Lasso.
When season 3 originally ended the Ted Lasso series, it was with a teaser for a possible continuation; A women’s team was suggested to Richmond team manager and owner, Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham), as a new adventure now that Ted Lasso decided to go back to the U.S. to focus on his son.
In season 4, we get to witness all the struggles of women’s football. From the lack of decent locker room facilities to getting sponsors or even getting taken seriously.
Ted Lasso isn’t done with soccer
Oh yes, Ted Lasso still calls it soccer, but nobody else does, as we’re in England. It’s football (or “footie”, if you want to be cute about it), and while Ted Lasso loves being with his son in the U.S., he isn’t excited about his job.
So, when the allure of training football is once again pulling Ted back to the U.K., it seems like fate when Rebecca asks him to train the new women’s team. Also, Ted’s son is a gifted footballer himself, so what better place to get better than in the home of the sport?!
While the show is obviously still about Ted Lasso, it’s also about all the other characters. This was always the case, but possibly even more in season 4.
Just as it was in earlier seasons of Ted Lasso, the title character needs to help the team advance. Richmond’s women’s team is currently a second-division women’s football team, and if the financial side of things is to work, they need to advance.
The cast of Ted Lasso S4
Alongside Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) and Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham), we have Keeley Jones (Juno Temple) as the CMO for the club, a fierce Women’s Football fighter, Leslie Higgins (Jeremy Swift), and Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt), who never left the U.K.
Also still there is Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) as the head coach for the Men’s Team.
Among the new additions, we have Tanya Reynolds (Sex Education) as assistant coach for the women’s team. Among players, you can look forward to Jude Mack (Such Brave Girls, Mickey 17), Faye Marsay (Game of Thrones, Pride), Rex Hayes (The Pact), Aisling Sharkey (Jurassic World: Dominion), and Abbie Hern (My Lady Jane).

Ted Lasso is executive produced by Jason Sudeikis alongside co-creators Brendan Hunt and Joe Kelly. Also executive producing are Jane Becker, Jamie Lee, and Bill Wrubel. Also on board is Emmy Award winner Jack Burditt as executive producer on season four under a new overall deal with Apple TV.
Sarah Walker (Silicon Valley, Mozart in the Jungle, Santa Clarita Diet) and Phoebe Walsh (Life & Beth) serve as writers and producers for season four, and Sasha Garron serves as co-producer. Julia Lindon writes for season four, and Dylan Marron serves as story editor.
Directors on the ten new episodes include alumni Ted Lasso directors Declan Lowney, MJ Delaney (Renegade Nell), and Erica Dunton (The Girls on the Bus), plus season 4 newcomer Ellie Heydon (Harlots, Outrageous).
Womentainment recommendation: A must-watch!
If you’ve loved Ted Lasso so far, I don’t need to tell you that you should watch this. Also, obviously, there are out queer characters in a show about female football players.
And if you’re a fan of Hannah Waddingham (at this point, who isn’t?!), then you also know to watch.
However, if you’re not familiar with either, then watch Ted Lasso from the very beginning, and then enjoy this fourth season focusing on women’s football.
